Perhaps this was not the book to begin whilst in a sick fog of slimy tissues, endless mugs of tea, and inescapable pajamas. Then again, Melanie Benjamin’s descriptions of the high life are luscious enough to make me feel like I’m in sweats and a layer of goo on a good day. And I do mean that in the best way.
