Some weeks I’m itching for a good mystery. Others I’m craving an emotional roller coaster. Or fantasy. Or historical fiction. Or goodness knows what. It might be brand new or something ancient or anywhere in between. In any case, it’s nice to share, so …
What’s Your Read?
Dear reader, please allow me to rhapsodize, to gush, to praise the skies.
Today is beautiful and wonderful and everything nice. I finally have my hands on the latest Mary Russell & Sherlock Holmes book, Dreaming Spies. Oh, glorious day!
Yes, I am in a bit of a mystery/suspense phase. Not unusual for me, but this happens to be one of my favorite series. There I was, wandering the aisles of my local library, hardly the Bodleian but loved all the same, when an unfamiliar spine caught my eye in the Ks of the mystery section.
Wait a second, is that? No, it can’t be. Don’t get yourself too excited. You’ll just be disappointed.
But it was. And I did. And I wasn’t.
The point of What’s Your Read is to share whatever I’m reading, not to give a full-fledged opinion or review. However, I surrender any effort at description of this week’s plot to say, if you haven’t read the Russell/Holmes series, find yourself a copy of The Beekeeper’s Apprentice and catch up posthaste. The adventuresome and intellectual equal of the “retired” Sherlock Holmes, Russell is the perfect narrator. Honest, humorous, and brilliantly captivating.
My friend recently tried the first book on my recommendation and subsequently blamed me for ruining her vacation when she couldn’t put it down. Guilty as charged.
Have a suggestion for my next read? What’s yours?
